If you are not ready to own your own home, you have a few options when you are looking for somewhere to live. You can find a great place in an apartment complex or building, but some think that this is not the most private way to live. Others opt for house apartments, which can be a bit more private, but you still give up a little because there are others that are living very close to you. The number of people is much lower, however, making these ideal for those that do not want to have tons of neighbors stopping by all of the time. Instead, they have just a few.
One great thing about house apartments is that you may have to share a home with just one other family. You are going to have your own entrance in this case, and you may not see a lot of the other people in the other apartment. While many homes are split side by side for this, or one apartment on the top and one on the bottom, some houses are split into three and even four apartments. These houses are much larger and can easily fit that many fully functional and separate dwellings.
Many house apartments come with their own lawn. This can be nice, but you may have to share with the others that live in your adjoining house apartments. For some families, this works out well, and for others, it can mean a lot of arguments. If you share a lawn and want to stay on good terms with your house mates, keep the pet droppings cleaned up, don't park in the grass, and do not trash the lawn in any way. Make the lawn as much theirs as yours, even if you do not see them out there very often, if at all.
Sound can be a problem in house apartments, just like in any other apartment type of dwelling. This problem can be bigger in homes broken up into apartments as sound was not a problem for a one family home. Apartment buildings were built with the means to keep sound down to a minimum. To keep things happy in your home, remember to keep noise down at night, and try not to make too much during the day especially if someone else works third shift. Children are always going to make noise, and as hard as parents try, that can not always be avoided. Remember that if you are getting upset with noisy kids living above you.
House apartments are special in the way that they are very close to owning your own home, but you do not have to worry about upkeep. You do not have the freedom you have in your own home, but you have much more privacy and you may have more room to move about with a yard of your own or that you share. Parking may not be a huge issue, and if you have chosen a good neighborhood, you may find that you like where you live and you may find your first house to own right there nearby.
