I love music, so to me there's nothing better than going to a huge arena or open-air pavilion to hear a band I like rock out for a couple of hours. Most major acts seem to prefer during the summer months, which means I've got to start saving up my cash for all the great shows that are sure to come to town soon. Tickets for concerts are pretty expensive these days, with even lawn seats or upper deck spots creeping ever closer to a hundred bucks per person. But the important thing is getting into the event at all -- a difficult prospect for some of the most sought after shows.
Fortunately, I've learned a few tricks for getting good concert tickets so I'm usually able to see the artists I'm most interested in. Before the Internet, it used to be that if you weren't able to get through to TicketMaster on the phone, then your only other shot was to hang around outside the venue and hope to run into a scalper or two. That was a risky proposition, of course, as you could end up paying way too much for the ticket. Worse yet, there was even a chance you'd come away with a fake ticket, leaving you out broke and out of luck.
Now with the Internet, there are a few other ways to get tickets for concerts, even when the shows are sold out. First, you have far greater access to ticket brokers now than ever before. These brokers are usually on the up-and-up, so even though you do have to pay a premium for the passes, at least you can be sure that they sell 100 percent genuine concert tickets. Any broker trying to hand off fakes wouldn't survive the bad word of mouth.
Another way to score tickets for concerts is to go on a ticket barter site. This only works if you have a highly desirable ticket of your own, such as to another concert or a major sporting event. Then you can trade with whoever would rather go to your event, and both parties come out ahead.
And finally, there's always a chance of getting tickets for concerts from websites like eBay or Craigslist. Many folks see the potential for a profit if they auction their concert tickets to the highest bidder on eBay or simply selling them outright on Craigslist. There's no guarantee that you'll win the auction or be able to afford the seller's asking price, but it can't hurt to check these sources if you're desperate.
Who says you need to camp out overnight in front of the box office or have inside connections to get tickets for concerts? The Internet has leveled the playing field, so as long as you've got the required funds, you have a terrific chance of being able to see your favorite band at a live show.
